Pages with Papertrey - #5

Look at that! A scrapbook page. Yea me! :) I've been doing more Project Life scrapbooking lately but when I saw these pictures it inspired me to do a "regular" scrapbook page. It felt good! I used Leigh's Pages With Papertrey sketch #5 to start me off. Here's the sketch:

The title is cut from Pure Poppy paper using the Modern Alpha dies. The polka dots (to mimic a ladybug) were stamped by an itty bitty dot in the Botanical Silhouettes stamp set. The file tab was also cut from Pure Poppy cardstock using the Edger #5 die. The patterned paper is from MME.

Words

Here's another layout share of my sweet little boy when he was just five and learning to write. I am so tickled that I kept his original notepaper that he used to practice writing his words. All too often these things get buried under other paper, lost, and forgotten. But not that day. Woohoo for me! lol

Another layout of my son from a few years ago and his OCD tendencies (I have no idea where he gets that *wink*).

30 minutes

This is one of my very favorite scrapbook layouts. Not because of the design or the colors, even though I really like them. It's because I was able to capture a meaningful story about my son. So many of my kids' stories and anecdotes are lost because I don't write it down or capture it somehow. This one though, I had the time, I had the photo, and I had the story.



From the very beginning my son has been the type of person that requires some time (strangely it's nearly always about 30 minutes, hence the title of the page) to observe a situation and warm up to it before jumping in. I learned early on that forcing him to do something he's not ready for creates stress and anxiety for him and everyone around him. If it's not a big deal, I don't make it a big deal. He'll pet the goat when he's darn good and ready. And if he doesn't? So what.

Anyway, just wanted to share it. I photographed several more of my pages to share on here so you'll likely be seeing those interspersed with my cards over the next several weeks. Thanks for indulging me and my creative outlet. ;)

Pumpkin kitty

I don't think I've posted this page before. A cat was coming around our place for a week or two and DD fell in love with it. It must have eventually found its way home because we haven't seen it since. DD has been begging us for years to get a cat or dog but DH and I just haven't been able to give in. Yet. DD wrote the journaling.

CKU 2005

In 2005 I attended CKU (Creating Keepsakes University) in Minneapolis with some girlfriends. It was a great experience - fantastic classes, great shopping, fun events and contests, and new friends. But the ultimate of the whole experience was when my name was called as the winner of the page contest. Seriously? I was dumbfounded. And then I couldn't stop smiling. It really was awesome. And the big pink box full of prizes was incredible - I'm pretty sure I still have some of the product left there was so much.



I made a mini album of my whole CKU experience but I still had some of these pictures so I threw together this page to include in my All About Me album.



I stamped my journaling lines using the Mini Scrapbook Series: Library Ledger. I took this close-up of the journaling so you could see how it's ever so slight but just enough so that I keep my writing straight. I also used the same stamp set to stamp "Apr 2005" next to my title.

Love You Molly

I've made a few scrapbook pages recently so I'll be posting those over the next few days. The photo I used here is a couple years old but I really like it. I wish I would have had the patience to wait for processing of a large 8 x 10 but I didn't. I wanted to scrapbook "now" and I didn't want my mojo to leave me so I scrapped with my 4 x 6. Gotta take the energy and inspiration when I can!



I have no idea where I picked up this little card but I thought it was cute and fun. Especially because there's a private little joke between Molly and me that started when I'd tuck her in at night and I'd say "I love you to the moon and back". Well, one night I forgot and she said it to me but I was already out the door and didn't quite hear her. I thought it sounded like "I love you to the man in the bath." Of course that doesn't make any sense but that's what I heard. So, that's our private little joke now and so I wrote that in on the card so I'd be sure to never forget. It makes me cry a little to think I even could forget something so sweet but I'm old enough now to know what time can do to our memories.



You can see I added a few flourishes to some corners of the photo using Fancy Flourishes stamps (PTI). It really added that little something to the page.

Summer Visitors

On the scrapbooking board of the PTI forum there is a challenge to create a summer layout in the hopes that it will make us feel better about these winter doldrums. I've had these pictures for ages and I'm glad to finally put them on a layout. Wouldn't a little stamped bird be so cute on the branch? If I only had the PTI Birds of a Feather stamp set!

Any tips on taking better photos of scrapbook pages? I never seem to be able to get a picture "straight on". Always at an angle and it's frustrating. One of these days I'll invest in some better lighting or a light box and hopefully that will help some. Until then, please muddle through looking at these funny shots.

Dad's Rule

 

Good Sunday afternoon! I completed a scrapbook page last weekend and I'm just tickled with how it turned out. I know it's not autumn but I can't resist sharing this page.

Ever since my daughter was a baby nine years ago my MIL has taken us and my BIL/SIL families to the local pumpkin patch. My husband's rule has always been that the kids can get any pumpkin they can carry. My five year old just barely made it with this pumpkin this year.

Here's a close-up of the title. The light stamping of the text really added a subtle, but needed "oomph" to the title area (IMHO).
