Birthday Cards

The sunshine today made me think that Spring might actually be on its way. I made a run to Target and didn't even wear my coat. It was 35 degrees out and warmer than it's been in months. I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere...you know you're from Iowa when you think 35 degrees is warm. Yuk, yuk, yuk... :)

Today I'm going to show you two cards. One, is essentially a reincarnation of one I showed you before. My other niece is turning 11 and I sent her money for a gift. She was heading to Mall of America in Mpls with her mom (my sister) so I thought she should have some spending money.

The other card I wanted to try out my new clear Spica pen. I like that I can make things shimmery without getting messy with glitter. I'm dipping my toe into the world of sparkles and I'm ankle deep using this pen. I colored each of the colored blocks and really, really love the slight shimmer they give. I like that this card is very simple and minimalist but it feels like it's missing something. Maybe it's just me. What else does it need, do you think?

I have some other cards that I've been working on and need to Photoshop them yet before I can post them. They always turn out so gray! Does anyone have any links on tutorials for taking better pictures of cards and/or scrapbook pages?????
Have a great week everyone!

Compose a Card

I had a bit of extra time this weekend to play with Becky Oehler's Compose A Card challenge. I also needed to make a card for a house warming for a coworker of my husband's. And I just received my first order of stamps from Waltzingmouse Stamps. So with all of those reasons behind me I made this card.

I'm totally in love with this wee little cottage; it is absolutely adorable.

The challenge called for using a negative image on the left side of the card but all I had for a negative image was this stamp - it'll have to do. :)

Stamps: Celtic Heritage and Irish Blessings (Waltzingmouse Stamps)
Ink: Ripe Avocado (PTI), Black (Memories)
Paper: Rustic Cream, Ripe Avocado (PTI); black (unknown)
Other: black ribbon, green ribbon

Well, after dinner I'm off to the house warming party. Have a fun evening everyone!

Happy Gooey Heart's Day

Both my kids enjoyed watching Rolie Polie Olie when they were younger. Is he even still one? It was such a cute show. One of their specials was "Gooey Heart's Day", a play off Valentine's Day. I still think of that even after all these years.

I have two cards to show today. The first is one I made for my DH. I found a heart button in my stash and layered it on top of another button - didn't it turn out cool?!

Stamps: Hero Arts
Ink: Smokey Shadow (PTI)
Paper: Raspberry Fizz (PTI); white (Bazzill); hearts PP (American Crafts)
Other: Raspberry Fizz twill (PTI), scalloped punch (SU!), corner chomper (We R Memory Keepers); buttons (from my stash)

This next card is the one DH gave to me this morning. I laughed pretty hard over this one. It's a good thing we both have the same sense of humor...hole punch! Hee hee.

Hope you all enjoy your Gooey Heart's Day!

Le Bebe

The card I have to show today is from a technique challenge issued by Nichole during this week's PTI anniversary party. I've embossed before but I don't think I've done an embossed resist technique. I learned that solid stamp images are naturally more suited to this type of technique. I didn't have any PTI stamps that fit that criteria but I did have this cute little onesie stamp. I also learned that Pure Poppy does NOT work for this technique - it's much to dye intense and colors the embossed image (it doesn't "resist" at all!)

The card is square - 4.25 x 4.25"
Stamp: onesie (Savvy Stamps)
Paper: Kraft, Sweet Blush, and Stampers Select White (PTI)
Ink: Sweet Blush (PTI)
Other: square scalloped nestibilitiy, Cuttlebug swiss dot embossing folder, square punch, ribbon, button, rustic cream twine (PTI)

I know it's too late to win any contests with some of the other challenges that PTI has issued but I still hope to get to some of them just for fun and to stretch my creativity. We all need to stretch every now and again, don't we?

Have a great day!
