CAS-ual Friday challenge #58

I don't often have the time to keep up with current challenges but for some reason this one was really calling to me and I made time to play a bit today in my craft room.



I started with a Vintage Cream card base (PTI) and then added this awesome pink ledger paper from Vintage Marketplace paper pad (Bazzill). I adore every single paper in this pack and am so tempted to buy another pack - I don't want to run out! :)

I then heat embossed the banners using Heart-2-Heart #5 (PTI) and added the sentiment  from Think Big Favorites (PTI) using Island ink (Fresh Ink). I almost always use black or brown ink for a sentiment but I thought that would be a bit too much contrast. So teal it is.

It looked really good just like that (nice and simple) but then I saw that cutie little heart staring at me and decided to add it to the open banner flag. Uh-oh. I wasn't too keen on it. Have you ever done that? Taken a perfectly good card and then added "one more thing" to it and it went down the tubes? Well, I guess this one wasn't too bad but it looked a little "off". KWIM? So, I added some additional patterned paper from this same paper pack. The polka dots make it look like a party! Wahoo! lol



And then I don't know what wild and crazy hair I got because I've never done it before but I decided to tie the card closed using some rustic twine (PTI). I like it. Kind of plays into the whole banners hanging from a string thing.

PTI MIM #68 Pocket Cards

Hi all. This is my second post for today so be sure to scroll down to see my other post. :)

I had a chance to get down to my craft room last night and whipped up this pocket card for this week's Make-It-Monday challenge over at Papertrey Ink. I really like to use the Front & Center die, scored and folded, as a pocket. It's just such a different look - a little cute and frilly. Nothing wrong with that. :)

Here's the pocket all by itself. I wanted this card to be mailable so I just wrapped some Raspberry Fizz ribbon around the pocket without a bow (read: I couldn't get the dang bow to look right so gave up and just left it flat.)



And here's a close-up of the tea pot. I used Amuse Lichen for the solid tea pot image and Amuse Fern for the outline tea pot image.


And here's the card insert. A few images of Turning A New Leaf (did you notice the leaf image on the tea pot matches the Turning A New Leaf image on the card insert? Pretty clever if I do say so myself) and the tea cup and sentiment from an old anniversary set called Everyday Classics. Love that set.

Doing this project I remembered how much I like pocket cards. I really should make that style more often.

I recently sent this card to my friend Gina to thank her for her kindness and generosity. Doesn't it just make your heart happy when people do nice things just because? It kind of bolsters your faith in humanity. Even though it wasn't a big thing, sometimes it really is the small things that make us (me!) happy.



I cut a negative space using the TANL dies and then backed it with some text paper. I added a few flowers from Beautiful Blooms 2 and a bit of bling. The sentiment was stamped on vellum paper and then I scored a line at the top and the bottom of the vellum strip to add a bit of emphasis. It was just a tad bland without it and this subtle texture seemed like the right touch to add. Then all of this was mounted on a Vintage Cream cardbase and the edges inked.

Will, You Rock

I had dozens and dozens of stars I had cut over the years to use for various projects and the envelope they were in was getting mighty thick. It was time to thin it out and use them up! I made two cards just like this one.



It was so simple to throw together. I put down some 7 Gypsies canvas tape on the bottom, sewed a line of stars across the top of that tape, and then stamped my sentiment. But, it still looked a bit like it was missing something. So, just a few little lines from BB: Retro that helped draw the eye to the sentiment and it felt all nice and cohesive. I thought it was manly enough to send to my rock star little brother, Will, in Denver, CO for his 23rd birthday.
