Z-fold card for PTI Make It Monday #295

Playing along with this week's Make It Monday at Papertrey Ink.



I don't think I've ever tried a shape card like this so I gave it a go. Isn't it fun?



Happy yellow polka dots!



Did you notice the herringbone pattern on the clouds? Isn't that texture fun? The sun is a SSS die and stamp set. However, the sun stamp had words in the middle that I didn't want to show. The Love Lives Here die was a perfect cover up. Serendipitous. Love when things work out like that.

You Inspire Me...

Lord have mercy, this Emma stamp (SSS) is just the coolest! So beautiful!

I heat embossed it in white, then sponged some Distress ink on top. I hadn't originally intended to sprinkle it with paint splatters but I had an inky "oops" when ink from my finger transferred to the card, so I decided to just make it blend in. Hopefully it's not too noticeable. Unless something is really noticeable I just try to keep going and make my "oopsies" work. 

The sentiment is from the Altenew Label Love set.

Playing with ME Party Animals

Oh my gosh! This Party Animals set from Mama Elephant is irrestibly cute! I had no idea how cute until I played with a friend's set, promptly fell in love with it, and quickly ordered my own set.



I started by blending some Distress ink on the background and spritzing some water on it. I die cut the cutie patootie bunny and put the cake and present in her hands. I added a little sparkle to the cake frosting and the ribbon on the gift with my Wink of Stella. Can you see it?



I'm a total beginner using Copics but this wasn't too bad. I just need to keep practicing. I wish I could remember which stamp set the sentiment came from (maybe SSS?) but I'm afraid I don't recall.

Lil' Inker Designs Mini Release Blog Hop

Today I'm joining some crafty friends in a blog hop for a mini release from Lil' Inker. Be sure to visit all the blogs on the hop and leave a comment at each because there are PRIZES! Below is the set I used. Isn't it great? I have never regretted choosing kindness over anything else.



The design reminded me of something you might see on a blackboard so I tried to recreate that idea here.



For the sentiment I used some white Nuvo embossing powder on dark gray cardstock. I used my Copic marker to color the heart red right on top of the embossing (thanks to my friend Cheryl for that tip) to give it a little more interest. I used my finger to rub a little white ink in a few select places to resemble chalk dust.



For the frame I first used a woodgrain impression plate on the kraft cardstock and then die cut that panel using a frame die. I used some Distress ink to lightly go over the woodgrain to help make it a little more visible. All of that was then matted onto a kraft card base.

Inspired By All the Little Things #54 - Guest Designer

Hello and welcome! I was so excited when my friend Leigh invited me to be a Creative Guest Designer for Inspired by All the Little Things. Here is the inspiration piece.

Isn't that a great photo? So many ways to go, but I kept coming back to the bookshelves, which looked like white and yellow stripes to me, and the overall color combination of yellow, white, and aqua.



I die cut white cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Dotted Rectangle Stackable die. Then used some Distress ink to paint yellow stripes on it (they are a little hard to see in the photo) and added the flowers from Reverse Confetti's Blooms n Buds. That was then matted on another white panel and then on another panel cut from some Lawn Fawn aqua polka dot paper. The sentiment is Simon Says Stamp Hand Lettered Encouragement.

My New Craft Room! :)

If you have any questions just post a comment and I'll get back to you. I'll try to include what I know but I'm sure I'll leave something out.

Over the last 10 years since we moved into our house I've moved my craft space from one room to another and I've also changed the layout at least twice and changed my storage containers. However, we have now finished our basement and I have permanent cabinets. Yea! I'm so excited about it and would love to give you a little tour.


So, let's start with the outside of the room. My craft space shares a room with our office in the basement. It is behind these barn doors, which we salvaged from an old house that was being torn down.



And here's the view peeking in.



I *love* having a fireplace in here. It definitely keeps the chill out, especially on those cold winter days. I still need to get a rug and do a little more decorating around the chaise but I like relaxing here (as do the kids). (The morning sun gets a little bright in here - I love it but it does make for tricky photos).



Wall color: Revere Pewter (Benjamin Moore) @ 25%
Ceiling: Palladian Blue (Benjamin Moore) @ 75%
Flooring: Adura luxury vinyl plank by Mannington in Iron Hill Coal (installed by me!)
Cabinets: IKEA Sektion, Haggeby style
Counter: a steal of a deal from Lowe's. It's laminate but I don't know what color it is. It is a mottled light gray.
Fireplace: Continental from Menard's
Chaise: Home Goods
Rug: Albina Triange Mosaic from RugsUSA
Banners: the one with the larger pennants against the wall was made by me; the one with the smaller pennants draping across the whole room was purchased from the Whatever Craft House.

I have three Alex cabinets in the middle on the bottom and then regular cabinets surrounding those. The small drawers work so well for craft supplies and they are also a little easier on the wallet (win, win!).

Here's what I have in each cabinet or drawer. I'll save the detailed storage and organization for another post but this will give you a general idea of what's in each drawer.

Lower cabinets (the photos will be the drawers as you move top to bottom, left to right):
Inks. My most used ink are in a storage unit (by Organize More) on my desk. The ones in the drawers are used less frequently. The pigment ink is used even less frequently so it's in the back bin. The front bin contains the red/pink/orange/yellow inks and the middle bin contains green/aqua/blue/purple ink.



Adhesives.



Envelopes, mailing supplies, finished cards.



Distress inks.



Craft mat, acrylic blocks, and Boon Organizer. When I'm working I'll leave the Boon organizer and the blocks on my desktop but I love being able to put them in a drawer when I clean up so I have an empty desk top.



And then below that is an empty drawer. I'll spare you a photo of an empty drawer. :) Guess I need to buy more goodies to fill it up.

Open shelf. I have my MISTI and Score Pal in easy reach. I also found this nifty container at Home Goods and it's perfect to store my Zigs and Copics. I also have lots of colorful knick-knacks up here. You might be wondering what the big "stick" is behind my Score Pal and MISTI and that is a (very) large pencil I found in an antique store years ago.



One thing I really, really wanted was better lighting. My husband installed this extra thin under cabinet lighting and it's great. It's so hard to work when you don't have proper lighting. I also want to get a different overhead light that is a little snazzier but I haven't found anything that is quite right yet.
